The Real Need for Bathroom Wall Tiles in Modern Bathrooms Today

Bathroom wall tiles are overrated

There are really some things that we can do without in this world, like assholes during commute or sadistic bosses who do nothing but toy with their employees. It’s not that we don’t like them… oh wait, yes we don’t. But aside from that, life would be much less complicated. It’s just like grey bathroom wall tiles in today’s modern bathrooms. Yes, some people still use contemporary bathroom wall tiles today and can even come up with impressively stunning designs, but in the long run, the need for them really has passed. I’ll tell you why if you keep on reading.

Wall Tiles Bathroom Spaces Don’t Need

When slate bathroom wall tiles were first introduced to the public, people went bat shit crazy over them. It was the first time that the bathroom became appealing, instead of a disgusting place that was damp and wet all the time. Before Victorian bathroom wall tiles, bathrooms were made of stone and granite finish. Only the truly rich could afford to splurge in carpeted bathrooms that were cleaned daily by butlers and maids. The availability of ceramic wall tiles for bathroom use to the general public was the advent for change in many ways for the middle class.

You don't need to cover every inch with bathroom floor tiles

Like I said, however, people went bat shit crazy over these bathroom tiles. I mean, ideally, when you bathe you just let the water fall down right? As such, the only place that you should tile, logically, is the shower base, or at least the shower space where you’ll get all the water on right? The point of doing so is to let the water hit a material that would not corrode due to constant water exposure. People, however, seemed to be too caught up with the notion of tiles that they went ahead and tiled up every inch of the bathroom. If only they could, they’d probably tile the ceiling as well. Crazy!

Today, this tradition has been carried on in most bathrooms. All parts of the bathroom have been tiled, in anticipation of water that would get everywhere. I don’t know about you but when I bathe I don’t usually spray water in all directions. You must be a really messy bather if you expect getting water beyond the shower space. Especially today if you have a modern bathroom, the chances of really needing wall to wall tiling for practical purposes is really low. If something, wall to wall tiling is for aesthetic purposes.

Alternatives Bathroom Wall Tiles Ideas

Like I said, you can still use bathroom tiles if you really want to, but it seems a bit unnecessary and even stupid to do so. The philosophy of most interior decorators today is to mix beauty with usefulness. Having tiles in a bathroom you know will never get that wet, therefore, appears to be beautiful but useless. I mean, your kitchen can get sprayed with water also but I don’t see a kitchen that’s tiled with waterproof tiles from wall to wall.

Bathroom wall tile alternatives are much more chic and practical

If you really want to improve your look, you should try using alternative materials to bathroom wall tiles that would provide the same effect of precaution in case something should indeed happen. Utilize marine carpeting for your walls and water resistant wallpaper for your walls. These decorative elements are made mainly of olefin, a material that is heat and water resistant that can withstand constant exposure to damp and wet environments such as yacht or boat decks. Its eventual domestic application should come as no surprise therefore, because someone was bound to take advantage of this technology sooner or later.

Especially with today’s dry bathroom theory that most homeowners implement, using water resistant wallpaper and marine carpet for your bathroom will make it look stylish and elegant, despite being prepared for any unwanted water accidents. Beside, using these materials will open your bathroom spaces to lots of exciting design possibilities that would not be possible with normal bathroom tiles. As an interior designer, I suggest that you try this alternative if you want to have a unique and stylish bathroom.
