In order to keep a bathroom organized, people put in bathroom storage solutions. A lot of times, after buying and putting in the bathroom storage, people encounter a problem.

Material

A lot of people get cabinets for their bathroom. And that is a good idea. But there are two problems with this. One, most cabinets were not designed to be kept in the damp environment of the bathroom and are made of wood. Two, not all bathrooms are designed the same. Some bathroom’s design result to water splashes ending up everywhere. You put these two factors together and you end up with cabinets with water damage that you need to replace after two years.

But this doesn’t mean you can’t buy bathroom storage items made out of wood. Wooden cabinets, especially the ones painted white, are popular to give your bathroom a country cottage feeling. You just need to make sure that you either have a walk in shower that effectively keeps water splashes within the shower area, or position the wooden item as far as possible from the splash zone.

Not Enough Compartments

Catherine Zeta Jones once said that the secret to a happy marriage is separate bathrooms. We might not be in a position to try that advice, but I know that two people who share one drawer in the bathroom are usually annoyed with the other person for messing up the drawer.

If you are getting just one cabinet or just one shelf, make sure that it has multiple compartments. This way, yours and your partner’s items will not be just thrown in and get all jumbled up.

And if your bathroom already has a built in cabinet with just one big storage space, what you can do is get some portable baskets, boxes or trays. These items should help you categorize, organize and divide the storage space in a way that will suit your needs.

Inconvenient location

For some people, the good news is, their bathrooms were designed with cabinets and drawers already built in. The bad news is, the cabinet was mounted seven feet up on the wall. Or maybe it was mounted on top of the tub. These are good ideas in terms of making use of unused space, but the location is so inconvenient that the cabinet ends up not being used. Also, if you keep the towels in the cabinet mounted high up on the wall, your kids might have a problem reaching them.

An easy and inexpensive solution for this is to get a slim and shallow free standing shelf that you can put right beside your sink. It is functional enough to serve its purpose and small enough to not make your bathroom fell crowded.
