Bathrooms have to be kept dry so it stays clean and safe. A bathroom with constantly flooded floors may indicate leakages from the sink or the bathing area, but hopefully not the toilet. These leakages have to be fixed immediately to prevent more serious damages and accidents to occur in the bathroom.

The leakages may be from a cracked shower tray. A walk in shower tray that is leaking can really cause the floor to flood. The leak will add up to the splashes that are caused by an open shower. Taking the leakages and excess water for granted may eventually create a serious damage that will need major refurbishing to get fixed.

There are steps for immediately fixing a leak in the walk in shower tray. By doing this quick and easy remedy, it will prevent the need for a major renovation and restoration in the future.

The first thing to do to fix a leaking shower tray is to locate the leak or the break in the tray where the water leaks through. To do this, make sure to wipe the floor outside the shower area for it to dry. Next, seal the drain. This is so the tray can be filled up with water.

After sealing the drain, turn on the shower and allow the water to fill the tray. Remember to observe the tray closely and look out for the part of the shower tray that has a crack. This can be spotted easily once the water starts flowing into the bathroom floor. If people find it hard to spot the crack, they can wipe the floor dry again and wait for the water to flow through the leak.

Once the break or the crack has been identified, remember to mark it with a duct tape. Using a pen marker to identify the crack or the break in the shower tray may cause a permanent stain on the surface of the tray and this can destroy the appearance of the tray’s surface.

The next step is to drain the water in the tray and allow it to dry completely. Remember that adhesives and sealants cannot stick to a wet surface especially if it is a smooth and slippery surface like the shower tray. If the surface is covered in tiles, remember to keep the gaps in between the tiles dry as much as the surface.

Once the shower tray has dried up, using a small knife roughen up the surface of the area where the leak is in the shower tray. The rough surface makes it easier for the sealant to hold and stick.

The next step is to apply the sealant. Before using the sealant, remember to read the instructions written on the pack of the sealant. If it is made of strong chemicals, wear gloves. Apply the sealant mix and smoothen it with the knife’s blade or using the tip of the thumb.

Allow the sealant to dry. The last step is to check if there is still a leak in the walk in shower tray by resealing the drain and filling the tray with water.
